Local
Public Relations Practitioner Wins
The 2004 DeAnn White Award For Community Service
PHILADELPHIA–
Dawn Angelique Jones, Managing Partner of KD Communications
Group was acknowledged as the 2004 recipient of the DeAnn
White Award for Community Service.
The
DeAnn White Award For Community Service award was presented
by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society
of America during the organization’s 36th Annual Pepperpot
Awards held on Wednesday, December 1, 2004.
The
Pepperpot Award represents PRSA's local version of the nationally
recognized Silver Anvil Award. Both awards are given to recognize
outstanding performance in public relations by practitioners
in agencies, industry, government and non-profit organizations.
The
DeAnn White award was established in 2000 in honor of the
late DeAnn White, who tragically passed away in the summer
of 2000. The award acknowledges the work of a Philadelphia
PRSA member who utilizes his/her public relations expertise
in the field of community service and volunteerism.
Fellow
PRSA member and director at-large Donna Alston nominated Jones
for the award. “I was compelled to nominate Dawn for
this award after learning about the extent of her involvement
in community and volunteer efforts outside of her professional
career," said Alston who also presented the award to
Jones. "The extent to which Dawn has used her professional
skills to benefit organizations that might not otherwise have
the privilege of that expertise is commendable. Her volunteer
efforts have yielded tangible results for the organizations
with which she has worked. For all these reasons, I felt Dawn
was an excellent candidate for this award."
Local
PR Practitioner Awarded“I am pleased to receive this
acknowledgement from PRSA,” said Jones. “ DeAnn
was a wonderful young lady and a talented public relations
practitioner and I am honored to receive this award,”
added Jones.
Recognized
for her work in the community, Jones serves as vice president
of the Philadelphia Black Public Relations Society, a member
of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, a member
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, board member
of the African American Female Entrepreneurs Alliance and
an active member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Along
with operating her public relations firm with partner, Kellie
Dutton, Jones is a visiting professor in the mass communication
department at her alma mater, Delaware State University. Jones
will be an adjunct professor at Temple University, in the
spring.###
