VAI SIKAHEMA OF NBC 10 JOINS THE PHILADELPHIA MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS CONGRESS IN CELEBRATION OF ITS 9TH ANNUAL RECOGNITION LUNCHEON

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrates its 9th Annual Recognition Luncheon, Thursday, October 30, 2003 at noon. The event will be held at the Westin Philadelphia Hotel, 99 South 17th Street at Liberty Place. NBC 10's Vai Sikahema is this year's Master of Ceremonies.

The annual event attracts well over 300 attendees from various hospitality related companies and institutions. MAC recognizes individuals, companies and organizations that have exhibited personal dedication and hard work to increasing Philadelphia's share of the multicultural convention and tourism markets.

This year's award recipients include: Imam Shamsud-din Ali of the Philadelphia Masjid who will receive the Outstanding Recognition Award. Keeya Branson-Davis of the Penn's Landing Corporation accepts the Industry Appreciation Award. The Share The Heritage Award will be presented to Donna Brown of Point Breeze Performing Arts Center. Conchita Burpee of InterMixx, Inc. receives the Pioneer Award.

"This year's theme is Economic Strategies In The 21st Century - Impacting Your Bottom Line. We will showcase the results of MAC and reinforce the certainty that the multicultural initiative created at the PCVB over 16 years ago is gaining momentum and strength as a revenue generator for the city of Philadelphia," said Tanya E. Hall, executive director of MAC.

MAC Annual Luncheon


"We have found that the MAC Annual Luncheon appeals to a multitude of companies

and organizations as a very positive community and industry relations' event," states Tanya Hall.


The annual recognition luncheon proceeds benefit Hospitality Education Day and The Tamara J. Gilmore Scholarship.

Area Philadelphia high school students artwork (ceramic and sculpture) will appear as table centerpieces. "We are delighted once again to have the students art work featured. Former attendees have also expressed their excitement over the return of the center pieces," said Nina Reese, MAC's special projects manager. Proceeds generated from the luncheon art sales will benefit the public high schools Art Education programs.

The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, was formed in 1987 to increase Philadelphia's share of the multicultural convention and tourism markets and to ensure the inclusion of Philadelphia's multicultural communities in every aspect of the hospitality industry.
