Basketball The Game - On & Off The Court
Washington, DC - In celebration of the 2002 WNBA All-Star game, The ESPN Zone –
Washington, DC and KD Communications Group present Basketball: The Game – On &
Off The Court, a grass-roots educational forum on Friday, July 12, 2002, Noon to
2:00 p.m. at the ESPN Zone in Washington, DC at 555 12th Street NW.
The educational forum is a free event intended for area youth participating
in sports in the Washington Metro Area. Young people will join current WNBA players,
professionals, legends, sports columnists and sportscasters in exciting dialogue about
BASKETBALL: THE GAME – ON & OFF THE COURT.
Frank discussions on topics such as, “The urban market and the influences it has
had on the GAME”, “Why are professional athlete’s heroic figures in the eyes of the youth
around the world?” and “What responsibility do athletes have to the youth (if any)?”
“We are excited to host this educational event with KD Communications Group.
This program has the purpose and intent to educate and engage its attendees ‘up close
and personal’ by allowing the young people an opportunity to interact with invited
WNBA players as well as the ‘players’ behind the scene,” said Kathy Cox, Marketing
Director of The ESPN Zone – Washington, DC.
Panelists include Glenn Harris and Ms. Joyce Jackson of News Channel 8
Sports; Henry ‘Que’ Gaskins – Ad*itive, Managing Partner; Mr. Clarence Boykin,
Washington Sports & Entertainment Center;
Set Free, And 1 – Director of Entertainment Marketing; Rob Holman, President
– Push The Rock Outfitters; Kenny Westray, President – We R One Gear and Mr.
Kelvin Choice, Associate – J&W Entertainment/Sports Management and Ms. Tracey Martin,
Fitness Trainer Specialist.
Air personality Osei – The Dark Secret of WPGC Radio 95.5 will host the event.
“Our motivation is to simply expose to the area youth the numerous career
options and opportunities available to them – within the sports industry,” said Dawn A.
Jones, partner with KD Communications Group.
“We will also discuss other options and careers that are within arms reach of the
GAME even if you are not an athlete, since statistically only 2% of hopeful athletes
actually become professional ball players,” said Kellie Dutton, partner with
KD Communications Group.
“Philadelphia was the kick off city for THE GAME during the NBA All-Star
Weekend. It continues during the WNBA All-Star Weekend in Washington, DC.
We plan on taking the program to every NBA/WNBA All-Star city,
added Jones.”
KD Communications Group is host to several upcoming fundraising events
commencing with a Thursday, June 20th After Work Networking Affair at Dave &
Buster’s located in White Flint Mall – 11301 Rockville Pike. The function begins at 5:30
p.m. to Midnight; donation/fee: $10.00. The fundraising continues on the next Friday,
June 28th at the Holiday Inn, located in Gaithersburg, MD – 2 Montomery Village
Avenue.
Event hours are free before 7:30 p.m. and a $10.00 donation after 8:30 p.m.
until 1:00 a.m.
