Basketball The GAME: On & Off The Court

Question: What is Basketball The GAME: On & Off The Court?

The GAME: A grass-roots educational forum discussing the numerous career options in the sports industry. Exposing/revealing the numerous professions available and within 'arms-reach' of our youth. In other words, you may not be an Allen Iverson, but you could be AI's lawyer, trainer or publicist.

Question: What is the mission of The GAME?

The GAME: To engage and educate its attendees about the behind the scene players of the sports industry -- the 'players' we never see.

Question: Why is it important to focus on the behind-the-scene players?

The GAME: A large number of our youth (and their families) have what we call "hoop dreams" -- we simply want to give the attendees a dose of reality. Discuss openly what percentage of high school and or college athletes actually make it to the NBA, NFL, NBL - professional sports.

Question: What's the events format and why?

The GAME: It would be best described as ‘town hall meeting’ style. The idea is to make it very informal and relaxed. It’s our attempt to make it comfortable for our participants to ask questions. As if our guests were sitting amongst their closest friends and family - just 'rapping'.

Question: Why invite NBA professionals if the focus is not on the ball players?

The GAME: In short, by using the momentum of the NBA All-Star Weekend, we invited professional ball players to discuss their professional careers "on & off the court". Openly discuss their traveled road to the NBA as well as their present day lives. Is it as easy as sports icons make it seem? What happens if they were to get injured on the court? What will they do post NBA?

Question: Why this particular audience -- the inner-city youth?

The GAME: Because so many of our kids think its, "so easy", to become a professional player. Many stated, they would simply "ball" in school and "roll to the pro's and get paid!”.

Question: So what can we expect from the invited guests?

The GAME: To simply share their personal experiences. What they do in the GAME, how and why they chose their respective careers. Detail their professional career and any training associated with it.

Question: What are the event topic points?

The GAME: For those not-so-athletic types, we will expose the enormous options available to them. For example, perhaps a student enjoys writing: sports writer. Perhaps a student enjoys videos, & music: videography. Perhaps a student has an interest in sports and medicine: sports medicine.
You get the idea? Good. See you there!
